Prozoca The Rapom V8 motorcycle, which produces over 1000 bhp, was built by British engineer Nick Argyle. It is powered by a supercharged Dodge V-8 engine. Running on alcohol, the 1000 bhp returns just four miles per gallon, and it's mileage log usually only covers the 10 mile journey to a local drag racing strip. With that sort of power available at a twist of the wrist, the monster bike requires a super long chassis end every bit of its curb weight of 1000lbs in order to stop the bike flipping under hard acceleration.

The Mission One EV electric sports bike got a proper unveiling at this week's Technology, Entertainment, Design (TED) conference, and boy does this baby exude power. Mission Motors says the motorcycle's got an 150 MPH top speed and 100 foot-pounds of torque at any point between 0 and 6,500 RPM. That's a good deal faster than the others like electric moto-spot which tops out at a now-paltry 100 MPH. The lithium-ion battery keeps it running for 150 miles, and charge time is targeted for under 2 Hours at 240V (8 Hours at 120V). Its stylish form factor comes from famed industrial designer Yves Behar. Yeah, we're excited, too, but here's the part where you flinch: the deathly silent super-scooter will first show up in 2010 with a 50-unit limited edition run costing $68,995 apiece. A more affordable model will be announced sometime this summer. If you've got a need for this much muted speed, be prepared to mortgage a house or two.

It was invigorating to think that Triumph was starting to understand the need for factory recognition of custom motorcycles (like the Bonneville pictured above). Rick Fairless makes it look easy to customize a vintage Triumph. So often, scrutiny of a customized 650 or Bonneville reveals the frustration we have all encountered trying to integrate all the "sourced" parts we have acquired for our build. Not so with Rick. Suzuki now all present and future cruiser motorcycles arriving in dealer showrooms beginning in August 2005 models will be called Boulevard, in a letter and number designation.It really bold step, because the model names mentioned above, the rich history and excellent reputation. In the mid 80's saw the introduction of Intruder 700, which combined the classic V-Twin design with modern engineering affects both liquid cooling and shaft drive. 1987 Intruder 1400 earned its reputation as the largest V-Twin production engine available at the moment of touching the movement of the wars in the cruiser market. In 1997, looters 800 became one of the best selling cruisers when Suzuki in the first year of its existence. Volusia and 800 in last year's best selling motorcycle in its class.

Though size and growth figures are not available for this nascent market, companies like Suzuki, which is launching the Hayabusa 1300 cc bike, and Honda, which is launching the CBR 1000 RR, are anticipating huge demand.
This despite the fact that German bike-maker BMW called off an arrangement, signed several years ago, with the Munjals to sell power bikes owing to negligible sales.
The Harley, meanwhile, is facing a roadblock in introducing its range of bikes here as the Indian government has refused to cut duties on the bike. The same government has, however, relaxed its emission norms on the bike and also allowed the company to set up a dealer network in the country.
Last year, media reports suggested that current leader in the performance bike segment, Bajaj Auto, was looking to buy out Ducati Motor Holding in an effort to build its own brand in the lucrative European market.

2009 yamaha yzf-R1 and Fz6R

While the company's flagship sportbike was heavily updated in '07, Yamaha has further revamped the R1 for '09. The highlight is the use of a "crossplane" crankshaft that spaces the journals at 90-degree intervals as opposed to the traditional 180, giving the engine an uneven firing order. The design is based on experience from the M1 MotoGP program and is said to provide a "more linear driving force in response to throttle movements and more linear controllability when exiting a corner for maximum acceleration."

In a typical engine, vibration is caused by the piston moving up and down, accelerating and decelerating with every stroke. Counterweights on the crankshaft are used to offset some of the weight of the piston, ring and connecting rod assembly, but this simply transforms some of the up/down inertia to a fore/aft direction as the crankshaft spins. Multi-cylinder engines allow each cylinder's inertia to be offset with another's; for example, in an in-line twin-cylinder engine, the rising piston nicely offsets the falling piston, eliminating primary vibrations-those acting at crankshaft speed. Because the cylinders are separated, however, a rocking couple is created. A four-cylinder engine with a conventional crankshaft eliminates that rocking couple because each set of rocking pistons is offset by the second set. Their research says 60% of its first-time buyers choose a Supersport bike like the R6 and R1, both of which aren’t exactly newbie friendly. Just 32% of these consumers chose an FZ1 or FZ6 from the Sport category.

Whenever marketing folks talk about bold new colors, they're usually covering for the fact that the new model year has little new to offer—except for a change in pigment. By the same token, when a motorcycle manufacturer flies you to Austin for a ride in the Texas Hill Country, you don't expect to hear about bold colors early in the pre-ride technical briefing—if at all—unless, of course, the bike in question is the 2005 Victory Hammer. In the case of the Hammer, the color palate had to be new and particularly bold or it wouldn't live up to the rest of the bike.

An all new CBR1000RR was introduced at the Paris International Motorcycle Show on 28 September, 2007 for the 2008 model year. The CBR1000RR is powered by an all new 999 cc (60.9 cu in) inline-four engine with a redline of 13,000 rpm. It features titanium valves and an enlarged bore with a corresponding reduced stroke. The engine has a completely new cylinder block, head configuration, and crankcase with lighter pistons. Honda -- please offer this bike for sale in the U.S.! Make sure to keep the styling intact, including the snarling headlight and very well integrated radiator. Touches like the single-sided swingarm, USD fork and dual front disks would be nice too. Follow Suzuki's lead and keep the styling mildly controversial and you've got a winner on your hands.

2007 Honda CBR600RR

Honda's middleweight sport bike underwent a complete and total redesign for 2007 with reducing the CBR600RR's weight as their primary focus. The result was a 20 lb (9.1 kg) reduction in dry weight over the 2006 model, from 361 lb (163.7 kg) to 341 lb (154.7 kg).

Honda dn-01 prototype

The DN-01’s technology theme continues in its brakes. It uses Honda’s Combined Braking System (CBS) plus an anti-lock system. Application of the front brake lever actuates five of six pistons in the dual three-piston front calipers using big 296mm floating front rotors (the same size as a Gold Wing’s!). The rear brake pedal engages a single piston in the left-side front caliper as well as the large 276mm rear disc

Kawasaki z1000

In 2007 Kawasaki released an updated version of the Z1000. The bike features a detuned version of the relatively outdated Kawasaki ZX-9R engine. This detuning, in addition to the design of the exhaust, provides less top end compared to the super-sport ZX-9R engine, but more low to mid rpm range, giving a stock '07-08 Z1000 a top speed of about 149mph and 0-60mph acceleration in about 2.9 seconds, with about 125bhp at 10,000rpm. Kawasaki successfully addressed complaints of engine vibrations, and provided a much smoother ride on the '07-08 models compared to the '03-06 models.
